Why do you ride?
After turning 50 in October of 2020, and becoming a quazi-empty nester, I decided to say “yes” to myself. My goal was to ride 50 miles in an event/race before the end of my 50th year of life. More importantly, I believe that fitness addresses one of the five important livable dimensions in one’s life that are critical to being a leader. I have found being on the bike creates a triune effect for myself connecting my physical, mental, and spiritual being. My “why” is to enjoy the sport of cycling and become the best version of me in this season of life so that I can positively impact my marriage, family, work team, and community.
What is your motivation?
My motivation is my cycling fitness goal of developing my strength and endurance while shedding some weight so that I can take on challenging events (i.e. the Pura Vida Challenge in Costa Rica 2023) and ride with better stronger athletes without feeling intimidated.
What is the first thing you are going to do after your 102-mile ride?
Hug my wife and family, and give thanks to God so that I can eat whatever I want!!
What do you like about Live & Learn and it’s mission?
What is most appealing to me about the Live & Learn model is their ability to facilitate the work required to break the cycle of generational poverty, and their focus on women. The program works because women take massive action to better their reality, and that is inspiring to me.
